1 Office bearers and organization of the TWG

• Members agreed on the following TWG officials:

    1. Chair – Dr. Gladwell Gathecha – Head, VIP Unit- MoH

    2. Co-chair – Dr. Dennis Magu – JKUAT

    3. Secretary – Oren Ombiro – MoH-DNCD

2 Priorities

Scope of work

• The following were agreed upon as the priority areas of focus for the next one year, in line with the National VIP Action Plan:

• Gender-based violence

• Road traffic injuries

• Burns

• Drowning

• Assault/violence Advocacy

• Commemoration of the UN Road Safety Week at both National and County/Sub-County Levels: 6th to 12th May 2019. This will be the first major activity of the TWG Coordination

• Mapping of partners engaged in VIP across the country

• Mapping of VIP interventions across sectors in the country Policy-related activities

• Finalize the National Framework for the Organization of Trauma Care and Training

• Review of existing policies and guidelines to incorporate VIP interventions, particularly the National Child Health Strategy and the Adolescent Health Guidelines Research and M&E

• Documentation of best practices

• Mapping and review of data sources and reporting systems for VIP

• Mapping of hot spots for injuries (in addition to the NTSA/Safeway Right Way hot spot mapping for road traffic crashes)

• Inventory of research on VIP and participate in ongoing research

• Develop a research agenda for VIP in the country Capacity building

• An assessment of health provider capacity for VIP to inform capacity-building priorities

TOS

The specific terms and references for the TWG will include the following:

Coordination

    1. Provide a forum for ensuring sustained coordination and networking among stakeholders for strengthening VIP in the country
    2. Assist and support resource mobilization

Policy and advocacy

    3. Advocate for inclusion of VIP in respective organizational work plans to enhance coordination and quality service provision.
    4. Develop policies, strategies, guidelines and action plans for VIP
    5. Make policy recommendations to health and non-health sectors on VIP
    6. Conduct advocacy work to ensure strong commitments from policy makers and community leaders

Research and M&E

    7. Identify, coordinate and conduct (as required) research activities in VIP
    8. Strengthen monitoring and evaluation (M&E) for VIP by conducting periodic review meetings and other program monitoring activities
    9. Establish a reporting mechanism for all actors in the various areas of VIP
