The NCD Navigator
Dear Colleagues,
The Ministry of Health, through the Department of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) Inter-sectoral Coordinating Committee (ICC) and its partners is in the process of streamlining the prevention, management and control of NCDs in Kenya. This is in line with the broader Health Policy, NCD Prevention and Control Strategic Plan, Vision 2030 social development targets, and the Universal Health Coverage initiative.
The attached stakeholder mapping holds value to your programs and to the advancement of the Kenyan NCD strategy. As you know, it is critical that we continue to strengthen services to prevent, treat and care for those living with NCDs in order to reduce NCD morbidity and mortality rates as part of the "Big 4" agenda initiative. This mapping will ensure your programs are recognized as part of our NCD effort. It will also help us in communicating to partners what is needed as well as understanding where we are excelling and where we still need to invest to support people living with NCDs.
The data collected will enable you and others working to improve NCD prevention and care to:
- Learn about and borrow from other organizations' efforts.
- Identify opportunities to coordinate and plan future NCD projects in a way that maximizes efficiency and impact.
- Accelerate the realization of Kenya's National Strategy for the Prevention and Control of NCDs.
- Respond to requests for proposals (RPFs) and other funding channels.
This stakeholder mapping exercise is collecting information about current activities that provide or improve access to NCD-related prevention and care with a focus on five specific NCDs: Hypertension, Diabetes, Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, and Mental Health. The visualization tool will be of great policy utility for planning and equitable distribution of the finite resources in the NCD space.
It is only through coordinated, collective action that we will achieve significant reduction of preventable burden of NCDs in Kenya. Thank you for making the time to have your work recognized within Kenyan efforts to achieve our Kenya NCD Strategy and improved prevention and care for people living with NCDs.
Kind regards,
Dr. Ephantus Maree,
Head, Division of NCD Prevention and Control,
Department of Noncommunicable Diseases,
Ministry of Health, Kenya
